Memory (RAM) and storage (hard disk / SSD) are not related to one another. That Mac has plenty of available storage. If you are running low on memory Activity Monitor can be used to identify the memory-intensive processes causing that warning. To learn how to use Activity Monitor please read the Activity Monitor User Guide. Thus, your computer may have enough space in its local memory but excel will show 'Microsoft Excel cannot open or save any more documents because there is not enough available memory or disk space'. Issues like this are related to the security settings innate in Excel 2013 or Excel 2016. Excel for Office 365, Excel 2019, Excel 2016, Excel 2013, Excel 2010, Microsoft Office Excel 2007, Microsoft Office Excel 2003. The drive that you are saving to does not have enough space, or the disk was accidentally detached from the system. The version of the file that contains your current changes is still open in memory. He sent the file to a mac user and when the mac user (OS 10.5, high end mac) tried to open the file in office 2004 he got 'not enough memory'. The user sent the excel file to me and I opened with office 2003 on an XP computer with no issue. I copy and pasted each sheet of the file into a new workbook, renamed it and sent it a different mac user.
The memory referred to is the RAM which is installed in modules. If you don't have the 2 GB minimum, then I'd guess yours had two slots with a 512 MB module in each for a total of 1 GB. You can find out easily enough by going to the Apple, click on about this Mac, and then on more info. In the resulting window, scroll down to memory and post what it says there. Also, at the top - under hardware - post your model/machine ID number , something like 7,1, 8,2 or similar. That number can be used to figure out what the maximum RAM is that your machine can handle. The minimum is 2 GB, but Lion will run much better if you have 4 GB or more.
By the way, that has nothing to do with your hard drive space (which you probably thought that was memory) - that is totally different.
And, as a caution: if the Mac has not even been plugged in, then the tiny little PRAM battery inside which keeps the basic settings such as time, date, etc. going if there is no power, may need to be replaced. You'd need to take it to the Genius bar for that.
